RADIO IN-DEPTH NEWS FEATURE - FEBRUARY 16, 2023 FOR THEDOGRADIO.COM
TO BE SUBMITTED TO 2023 JOHN DRURY AWARDS IN "RADIO IN-DEPTH" CATEGORY
This radio editorial news in-depth feature is centered around Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' "Stop W.O.K.E." Act which was ultimately adopted into a sweeping bill called the “Individual Freedom Act." The bill limits and prohibits how public schools and businesses discuss race and gender and has been challenged by several advocacy groups such as the ACLU of Florida. This piece represents the first time I produced an editorial for radio and I wanted to creatively voice my concern for legislation which censors both history and the people charged to teach it.

RADIO IN-DEPTH NEWS FEATURE - DECEMBER 2022 FOR THEDOGRADIO.COM
SUBMITTED TO 2023 INDIANA ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BROADCASTERS AND JOHN DRURY AWARDS IN "RADIO IN-DEPTH" CATEGORY
This radio news in-depth story is focused on the names of buildings within the Crown Point Community School Corporation. All school buildings named after a specific person in our city are named after men, some of whom have no connection to Crown Point. A group of community members proposed changing the name of one school after Crown Point's first teacher, Harriet Warner Holton. I felt this story needed to be told considering the gross underrepresentation of historic women being honored in our culture.

NEWSCAST - JANUARY 2022 FOR THEDOGRADIO.COM
SUBMITTED TO IASB AND JOHN DRURY AWARDS IN "NEWSCAST" CATEGORY
This newscast opens with a story on Indiana House Bill 1041 which proposed to ban transgender girls from playing sports in Indiana K-12 schools. While I am cognizant of the racial homogenization in my community, I strive to cover the other demographics that build diversity in Crown Point. I was immediately drawn to this story because I believe stories like these don't get to students until legislation has already been passed and I thought the story would have a purpose through informing people and allowing minorities the opportunity to advocate for themselves, should they feel compelled to do so.

SUBMITTED TO IASB "SPORTSCAST" CATEGORY
One of the things we often talk about in our newsroom is the representation of all CPHS sports. It's easy to often focus on the more popularly attended sporting events; however, I strive to make sure I'm covering all teams in action on a given night. For this particular sportscast, I traveled to Mount Carmel High School in Illinois to grab a quote from CPHS wrestling coach Brandon Lorek and then raced back to Crown Point to cover both the girls' and boys' basketball games.
