HARD NEWS REPORT - Loyola's Mission Questioned at the Bargaining Table - AIRED MAY 2026
Throughout much of the 2025-2026 school year, Loyola University Chicago professors and students were talking about a contract bargaining dispute between non-tenure track professors and LUC's College of Arts & Sciences administration. Negotiations opened prior to the start of the fall 2025 semester as I was headed off to study in Rome for the semester. When I returned to the Chicago campus in January, the conversations were still occurring. By the start of spring 2026, negotiations were beyond heated with an overwhelming majority of the non-tenured professors joining together by way of their union to fight for their requests of higher compensation, allowance for personal leaves and lighter workloads. Late in the semester, the faculty voted for a strike allowance to demonstrate to the university they were serious. I spent time with faculty members at their picket lines and interviewed them on campus. They were fighting for social justice and contrasted the way they believed LUC was treating them as opposed to the school's mission statement. It was the first time as a journalist I felt conflicted between two worlds in an effort to communicate two sides of a story.
IN-DEPTH NEWS FEATURE - Chicago's Record Store Renaissance - AIRED MAY 2026
This in-depth news feature was my first attempt at an Arts/Entertainment/Cultural Affairs subject piece as part of my work at Loyola. I had overheard a group of students at a local restaurant talking about how much money they were spending while building a vinyl record collection. I became interested, quickly did some research on my phone and found global record sales were rising over the last couple years. Further, I discovered Chicago had a number of independent record stores throughout multiple neighborhoods in the city. Thus, an idea was born. This is probably my most comprehensive work on a single package to date as I traveled to four different record stores to capture B-roll and interview store owners and a number of ardent record store customers who were all incredibly passionate about physical music formats. Editing this work down to a 6-7 minute package was painstaking as I left a lot of interesting material on the proverbial editing room floor.
IN-DEPTH NEWS FEATURE - AIRED APRIL 10, 2025 ON RAMBLER SPORTS LOCKER
This news feature package was an idea I had after completing a class project at Loyola. I was assigned a radio package which included an interview of any subject at Allstate Arena other than the players, coaches or team staff of the Chicago Wolves during a Wolves' game. I remembered attending a number of games in my youth and hearing stories about Wayne Messmer, the legendary singer known for singing the national anthem throughout Chicago sports arenas. I contacted the media department to request an interview and I was simply told, "no." I researched a way to contact Messmer directly and he agreed to meet with me during a Wolves game. It reminded me how interviews don't come easy in journalism and demonstrates my abilities to track down a subject, conduct meaningful interviews, find archived newspaper clippings and news reports, capture B-roll which syncs with what is being said, write, perform standup and edit all materials into a cohesive in-depth story.

IN-DEPTH SPORTS FEATURE - AIRED SEPTEMBER 6, 2024 ON RAMBLER SPORTS LOCKER
This sports feature package covering the 2024 Lexus U.S. Open of Surfing competition in Huntington Beach, CA demonstrates my abilities to produce and cover non-traditional sports, capture B-roll which syncs with what is being said, acquire interviews which help convey the story, write, create visually appealing and informative graphics, perform standup and edit all materials into a cohesive story. Further, the package was captured and edited on Huntington Beach which proved difficult in capturing quality, balanced audio of interviews.

SHORT NEWS PACKAGE - AIRED MARCH 10, 2023 ON CPTV
I applied for and received my first White House press credential during my senior year of high school when First Lady Dr. Jill Biden visited nearby Ivy Tech Community College in Valparaiso, Indiana to promote the work of community colleges throughout the U.S. I learned the process by which reporters gain clearance through the White House and the protocol in covering the President and First Lady of the United States. I also learned how difficult it is to interview the First Lady. I'd long worked under the presumption that if you don't ask for permission the answer will always be "no." So, I went straight to Dr. Biden's press secretary and asked for the opportunity to ask her one question, to which I received a swift and resounding, "No." I learned my lesson and was better prepared the second time I reported on the First Lady's subsequent visit to the Midwest.
